Convoy in Loving Memory of Leslie John Rocher, Old Town, Yellowknife NWT.

Les Rocher, titan of YK property development, passes away “… It’s a tough loss for Yellowknife. He really did so much. “Les has been so important to Yellowknife,” Mayor Rebecca Alty said.
Councillor Niels Konge, another of Yellowknife’s construction leaders, said: “I don’t think there’s any single, one person who fully understands the scope of his contribution.”

‘Northern icon’: Yellowknife remembers Les Rocher Apr 27, 2020
“…Legendary Yellowknife real estate and property developer Les Rocher is being remembered as “northern icon.”
Rocher died Thursday just two days after his 63rd birthday.
Over his decades in the North, Rocher owned swathes of land and property across Yellowknife: shacks and cabins in the city’s Old Town neighbourhood, a modular-home subdivision on Kam Lake, several downtown buildings and even a few old barges.
In a Facebook post, N.W.T. Premier Caroline Cochrane described Rocher as a “northern icon” who will be remembered by many for his work ethic, no-nonsense attitude and his drives around town with his little dog sitting in the front seat….”

Journalists who want to cover COVID-19 within their own communities can apply for this fund.

National Geographic has launched the COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists.

The fund will range from US$1,000 to US8,000 for local coverage of the preparation, response and impact of the global coronavirus pandemic.

Proposals must emphasize delivering news to underserved populations, particularly where there is a dearth of evidence-based information getting to those who need it. Local and even hyper-local distribution models are encouraged.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. All materials must be in English. …"

"… New COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists[…]

We seek writers, photographers, videographers, audio journalists, cartographers, filmmakers, and data visualization experts to apply for this funding. Journalists should seek placement of this work within their local media ecosystems and must attribute their support to the National Geographic Society’s Emergency Fund for Journalists. National Geographic Society or National Geographic Partners may also choose to publish some of this work as part of its global coverage. […]

Priority communities include: Those at high risk or hit especially hard by the virus, indigenous communities, immigrant or refugee communities, underserved, urban, rural, elderly populations, and children.

Applicants may use up to 100 percent of their budget as personal reimbursement for their reporting time. We ask that applicants estimate their standard fee for reporting on or creating such content.

We also ask that recipients of this funding prioritize the health of yourselves and the communities in which you work. Many journalists are accustomed to putting themselves in harm’s way in pursuit of a story. We ask that you not only consider all precautions to protect yourself, but that of the people you are covering as well. Please follow local, regional, and national guidelines in terms of access for accredited journalists in your region. This guide provides advice for visual and other journalists.

Finally, all reporting must be fact-based and accurate. …"

A bit windy today… 11.2 km return…. went with the wind to the Snowking’s Winter Festival but decided to return to Franklin so as to fight the wind only some… of the way back…
The wind was strong and the blowing snow out on the full ice reminded me of mini white-outs…. so
No thanks… 👌👍🏾🖖🏼
I’ve had my fill of white-outs…
Even mini ones….72263C6D-CE69-4EB2-874C-77DC287B6A7E-v2
