Nunavut Research Institute is pleased to launch a website documenting the spatial and historical evolution of the city of Iqaluit.

Northern_Clips‘s insight:

This website represents the results of a case study, led by Natural Resources Canada, of Internet-based dynamic visualization of historical geospatial information. The main objective of the project was to develop interactive Web maps of Iqaluit based on aerial photographs from various years. The intended audience included the City of Iqaluit, the Government of Nunavut, northern communities, city visitors, schools, and the private sector.

By using a graphic interface and basic GIS capabilities, the viewer is able to interactively visualize change in the development of Iqaluit over the last 50 years in the form of dynamic maps and images.
