Canada’s endorsement on Friday of the UN’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is an encouraging and tangible demonstration of the federal governments’ renewed commitment to Canada’s Aboriginal people. “Aboriginal cultures, values and traditions are a rich and equal part of our nation’s proud history,” the Premier said. “I congratulate the federal government for recognizing and taking this important step that will serve to advance and strengthen our relationships collectively as Canadians.. … In February 2008, the 16th Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a motion to recognize and support the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples…..”
